This is the moment a heroic granny beat off a gang of would-be armed robbers at a Northampton jewellery shop using nothing but her handbag.

In the astonishing footage, captured by a passer-by, the old dear is seen charging up the street towards a bunch of robbers who are smashing in the shop’s windows with sledgehammers.

They soon get a shock when super-gran whips out her handbag and begins battering them, and try to scarper on their getaway bikes.

One is floored by the fearless granny’s blows, and is held down by passers-by.

Four men aged 18, 22, 25 and 39 were arrested in connection with the incident.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “Offenders arrived at the shop on three motorbikes and attempted to smash the windows of the shop with sledgehammers.

“The offenders were disturbed by members of the public and fled the area without taking anything. No one was injured as a result of the incident.”

Wow! I only hope to be as brave and fearless as her when I am her age! What an absolute legend!
The man in the shop got scared and rolled down the windows (which ofcourse you would, I would be scared too in that position) but there she is swinging that bag at them like it was nothing! What a woman!
