A couple were astonished when the unborn baby they had already named King Arthur stayed true to his name in his ultrasound – appearing with a goatee and CROWN.

Parents-to-be Laura Newman and her partner Dan Jones had nicknamed her bump ‘little King Arthur‘ after both falling in love with the name.

But Laura, 20, was astonished when she went for an emergency scan at nine weeks and the ultrasound appeared to show a little king.

Their unborn baby appeared with what looks like a crown, beard, ruffle collar and cape.

Delighted Laura from Warmley, near Bristol, said: “The image very clearly looks like King Arthur.

“From the crown to the oversized collar, it’s very clear. I couldn’t believe my eyes.

“I went straight onto Google images and searched for an image of King Arthur and put the two together then passed it onto my family who were all amazed.

“So after calling our little one King Arthur, before even finding out the sex of the baby, it turned out that no matter what King Arthur was already in the womb.”

Laura and Dan, 28, a demolition worker, started trying for a baby last year and before she even realised she was pregnant, the couple fell in love with the name Arthur.

During a short break at Center Parcs in Longleat, Wiltshire, they heard a mum calling her little boy ‘Arthur‘ and decided they would use it if they had a boy.

Convinced they were going to have a boy, the couple started using the jokey name ‘little King Arthur‘ when referring to their unborn child.

“We loved that name and shared it with close friends and family, just as a joke really – it’s not something we planned on going on the birth certificate,” said Laura, a massage therapist.

But Laura fell very ill nine weeks into her pregnancy, and went into Southmead Hospital for an emergency scan, on June 30.

Both mum and baby recovered quickly, but it wasn’t long before Laura spotted the image of the king in her picture.

Laura is now 37 weeks pregnant with their baby – which is actually a girl – who is due on February 2.

She said: “I won’t be popping out a little King Arthur this time, but it was a rather strange and exciting experience.”
