A teenager has denied sexually abusing two young boys at an after-school club where he was working as a child supervisor, a court heard today.

Child supervisor denies sexually abused young boys

Samuel Butcher, 19, is accused of ”dragging” a six-year-old child into a toy shed and abusing him while a second child was made to watch at the Cambridgeshire playschool.

Cambridge Crown Court also heard that Butcher, who had worked at the after-school club for four years, abused the same child after following him into a toilet.

A second boy, who is now 7-years-old, claims that Butcher approached him in a play pen before begging him to touch his genitals.

Prosecutor John Kellett claimed Butcher warned both children to keep the abuse ”secret” but was arrested after they admitted everything to their parents.

Speaking via a video link, the six-year-old child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told the court he was wearing his school uniform when Butcher abused him.

He said: ”He squeezed it. I told him it hurt. I told him to stop it. He stopped. He said to keep it a secret. It’s bad. I felt sad about it I told my mum about it.

”I was playing, I was running and he watched. He came over and dragged me across the grass to the shed.”

Blonde-haired Butcher denies one count of sexual assault of a male child under 13-years-old and one count of causing or inciting a male child under 13 to engage in sexual activity between January 1 and June 22 last year.

The court heard Butcher, of Histon, Cambs., started working with children at the club when he was 15-years-old as part of a school work experience project.

He continued over the next four years as a child supervisor and received pay on a part-time and full-time basis.

The court heard the boy told his shocked mum about the two alleged incidents while she was putting him to bed in June last year.

His parents typed up a note of the abuse their son had described then telephoned police and alerted managers at the pre-school.

Mr Kellett added: ”He said to her ‘Sam touched my willy’. She said don’t make stories up it is a very serious thing to say. He said it was true.

”She called her husband and subsequently during the course of that conversation he actually gave a demonstration of what Sam had done to him.”

At the police station the child repeated the allegations and created a sketch showing where Butcher touched him, describing the area as his ”nuts”.

As a result of the police interview a second child was questioned after he told his mother Butcher had attempted to abuse him at the same childrens’ club.

Mr Kellett said: ”He indicated there had been an occasion when they were in an outside play pen and said at some stage Sam invited him to touch his penis.

”That was something he declined.”

The trial continues.
