Conservative candidate spells constituency wrong

A red-faced Tory parliamentary candidate has apologised after his election material misspelt the constituency he was standing in.

Thousands of voters were sent election leaflets asking them to vote for their local Conservative candidate Robin Walker in ‘Worcestor’.

The leaflet, entitled ‘On the Vote!’ features a picture of Mr Walker alongside the words ‘Delivered free across Worcestor’.

Mr Walker, who is contesting the Worcester seat, yesterday apologised for the blunder and blamed the printers.

He said: ”At the end of the day this will have ‘Worcester’ in it over 10 times.

”Someone at the printers has made a mistake but what can you do?

”These things do happen when you are relying on other people to get stuff printed – you run into these difficulties.

”Clearly, Worcester features very prominently in everything we’re saying this election and it’s important we get these things right, and we will in the future.

”These things do happen in the rush of a campaign and obviously it’s silly and we need to make sure we do better.

”We are putting out tens of thousands of pieces of literature and we will make sure we quadruple check in the future.”

Matt Edmonds, Mr Walker’s election agent, said it was too late to recall the pamphlets or get them re-printed because the majority had already been delivered to people’s homes.

He said: ”We have just got to put our hands up on this one. We always try so hard but this is just one of those things.”

Yep – blame the printers. I hear that some of them give their customers proofs to check, but obviously that sort of attention to detail would be beneath the Tory Toffs. Leave it to the workers to take the blame.
