Bristol City’s shock new signing David James faces an onslaught of shots from his new teammates during his first day’s training with the Westcountry club.

The England number one, who joined City last week on a free transfer, was pictured joking with his new teammates at the club’s training ground.

In his first session, the 40-year-old pulls out a few blinding saves, tipping shots over and palming others around the post.

James, who lives in Devon, turned down Celtic to play for the Championship club citing the club’s location as one of the key factors.

In a press conference last week he said: “Bristol’s location is not the only reason I’m here. I also had to make sure I was joining the right club and there is so much to be done here.

“I love the West Country and, given the catchment area, it is amazing to think this area has never had a Premier League club.”

And his move has already led one bookmaker to offer odds of 5/6 he’ll keep 13 or more clean sheets for the club this season.

It will be the first Premiership season without James, who has the most clean sheets in the league’s history and has also played more games than anyone else.

James’ move to Bristol leaves just Sol Campbell and Ryan Giggs as the only ever present players since the league was established in 1992.

Bristol City is the England goalkeeper’s seventh club following spells with Watford, Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Ham United, Manchester City and Portsmouth.
