Former Mercury Music Prize winning DJ Roni Size has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

Drum ‘n’ bass artist Size, 40 – real name Ryan Williams – was arrested after a woman allegedly suffered leg injuries.

He was originally arrested in July and answered bail on Tuesday – just as this year’s Mercury Prize winner was announced.

The Bristol-based DJ, who was born to Jamaican parents in 1969, was re-bailed pending further investigation by Avon and Somerset Police.

Roni Size grew up in the St Andrew’s area of Bristol – learning music production at his local youth club.

He developed his skills in his home studio after being expelled from school aged 16 before collaborating with Dj Krust, DJ Suv and DJ Die at the Glastonbury Festival in 1990.

They went on to form the Full Cycle record label in 1993.

Roni Size shot into public consciousness in 1997, after his band, Reprazent, put out their platinum-selling album New Forms.

The album scooped the prestigious Mercury Music that year.

He went on to collaborate with a number of famous artists, including soul singer Beverley Knight and hip-hop star Method Man.

Reprazent reformed in 2008 – playing gigs across the UK and releasing a deluxe edition of their Mercury Prize winning album.

Last week Mr Size performed at the Nocturnal Festival in Texas, before returning to his home city to answer bail.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed a 40-year-old man had been arrested and bailed on suspicion of grevious bodily harm.

Mr size was unavailable for comment yesterday (Weds). His management at D-Style declined to comment.
