Elderly woman dies after falling from yacht in Looe, Cornwall

An elderly woman has died after falling from the deck of a yacht in the English Channel, coastguards have confirmed.

The woman fell off the catamaran while sailing near Looe in Cornwall at 11.45am on Saturday.

She was pulled unconscious from the sea by the yacht’s two remaining crew members who tried to resuscitate her.

The victim was then airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where she was pronounced dead.

A police spokesman said the crew were treated for shock following the incident.

He said: ”Police were advised by coastguard of an incident they had been dealing with where a female had fallen from a boat at sea 2.5 miles from Looe.

”The casualty was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where she was later pronounced dead.

”Police are liaising with the Marine Investigation Branch as enquiries continue.”
