European Pharmacopoeia 2.9.9, allows consistency measurements with a standard cone or a micro-cone. Measurement with the micro-cone is preferred because of its small sample volume of 4 mL.
The smaller sample size means they are ideal during the development phase when sample volume can be limited and offer faster temperature-stabilisation allowing shorter overall test times.
