Gaudy central London flat bedecked with marble and elaborate murals goes up for rent – for £21k per month!
It is not to everyone’s taste – but this flamboyant apartment which is bedecked with marble and elaborate murals has gone on the rental market for £20,000 per month.
From the outside, North Gate is a typical luxury mansion block overlooking Regent’s Park in London.
But the moment you open the front door you are met with a “breathtaking” four-bedroom flat which has undergone a no-expense-spared overhaul.
Over a five-year period, the flat has been transformed with marble flooring and walls covered with elaborate murals.
Chandeliers hang from the ceiling and the furniture is covered with mirrors and glass. The dining table chairs have door knockers on the back.
The effervescent apartment has now gone onto the rental market for £5,000 per week, or £21,666 per month.
Sophie Barham, lettings valuer at Foxtons St John’s Wood, said: “This is certainly one of the most luxurious apartments I have come across in my career so far.
“The owners completely gutted the apartment and spent about five years getting it to the amazing standard it is today.
“I was completely blown away when I walked into the property for the first time, having never seen anything like it before and even when I go back it still never fails to stun me.”
The apartment would cost around £4.75 million if it was offered for sale.
And since the stamp duty changes in December 2014, a number of estate agents have reported a rise in the number of people looking to rent at this level rather than buy.
This is because stamp duty alone would be £483,000 – enough to cover the rent for almost two years.
The flat has 2,600 sq/ft of accommodation which makes it larger than many family houses in the capital.
It is in a portered mansion block and is managed by Foxtons. Tenants must pay a £30,000 deposit.
Sophie added: “With porter service, four bedrooms, The American School in London just minutes away and a location literally opposite Regent’s Park, this apartment will likely be snapped up by a family relocating to London for work purposes.
“The response has been great and very enthusiastic. The apartment offers a unique sense of style and living. Those who have seen it love it.”
