An eleven-year-old girl has been found dead in the bath, her devastated parents said.

Tragic Georgia Googan was found floating in the tub at her family home in Stoke-sub-Hamdon, Somerset.

Step-dad Christopher, 51, said ”bubbly and lovely” Georgia went up for her bath around 6.30pm on Sunday, September 23.

But half an hour later, mum Samantha, 43, went to check on her and made the grim discovery.

Christopher said: “It must have been just after 7pm when Samantha went up to check on her and found her floating in the bath.

“She dragged her out of the bath and we tried to resuscitate her. My friend called the police and ambulance who tried to resuscitate her.

“More paramedics came and took her to hospital with Samantha.”

He added: “It was a great shock – we didn’t expect it. It was a typical Sunday which turned into a nightmare.

“She was a bubbly little girl, constantly smiling, constantly laughing. She was full of character, a beautiful kid – one minute she was there, the next she’s gone.”

Popular Georgia had only just started secondary school at Stanchester Academy but had already made dozens of friends.

Adrian Halford, head teacher of her former primary school Castle Primary, said: “During her time with us she quickly established friendships with her peers and was a bubbly and popular member of the class and school.

“She became fully immersed in all aspects of school life, attending after-school clubs and playing for the netball team.

“She was always smiling and enjoyed life at school to the full. Our thoughts are with Georgia’s family at this sad time.”

Judy McBlain, head teacher of Stoke-sub-Hamdon school, said: “She had made a positive start at the school, enjoying lessons and making new friends.

“She will be sadly missed by the staff and students in our community.”

Police are not treating the death as suspicious, and a coroner has launched an investigation.
