Girlfreind of teenager who jumped from ferry on New Year’s Eve hopes for ‘closure’ after body is found
The girlfriend of a teenager feared dead after leaping from a ferry for a £100 bet said she hoped for ”closure” today after police found a body.
Jordan Cobb, 16, threw himself off the boat into freezing waters as a dare on his way to a New Year’s Eve party with friends.
Officers believe the keen swimmer jumped in for a £100 bet to see if he could swim to the bank of the River Tamar between Devon and Cornwall.
Police, coastguards and members of the public desperately tried to find Jordan, of Plymouth, Devon, to no avail.
He has been missing since the incident and police say they have now found a body which is “likely” to be him on the Cornish side of the river at Torpoint.
Jordan’s girlfriend, Savanah Rich, 16, posted on Facebook: “Please be the truth this time. Everybody needs closure and to be able to start grieving.
“I need it to be you Jord for everyone’s sake because this waiting game is too hard to keep going.”
Detective Inspector Nick West said: “We believe it is likely to be Jordan Cobb but that is still yet to be confirmed with the coroner.”
Carol Hannaford, principal of Jordan’s school, said: “Some of Jordan’s best friends have been here responding to the news. It has been a very traumatic time.
“At least if it is Jordan then the uncertainty is over. We have just got to pay tribute to his friends and family who are here for him always.”
