A golfer was counting his lucky stars today after beating odds of 67 million to one – by landing TWO holes-in-one during a nine-hole round.

Council technician Adam Smith, 47, stunned his pals by claiming an ace with his opening shot at the 211 yard first tee.

But lightning struck again when he hit another perfect shot on the 170 yard seventh hole.

Amazingly, the double ace came during a quick ‘half round’ which Adam squeezed in before a lunchtime appointment on Saturday.

The council technician said: ”I was in shock. I found out later that the odds are the equivalent of winning the lottery four times.

”It’s pretty special. I’ll probably never do it again so I’m soaking up all the attention.”

Adam, of Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, plays at Stonehaven Golf Club off a handicap of seven.

He only had time for nine nine holes on Saturday morning because he had an appointment to view a new car.

Oddly, players at Stonehaven start on the 18th hole during the winter months because of a course tradition.

Adam teed off and notched up his first ace at the par-three hole – the second time he has scored a hole-in-one at the 18th, having bagged his first 15 years ago.

He said: ”I didn’t think the ball was in the hole as I could still see it. It must have been resting against the pin before it fell in.

”I took my putter with me just in case, but it was in the hole and I was delighted.”

After starting at the 18th, Adam and his pals then continued to the first hole and continued a normal round until they reached the par-three seventh.

He said: ”One of my playing partners made a similar shot to myself. When we got to the green there was a ball there.

”I assumed the one that hadn’t gone into the hole was mine. When my pal said it was my ball in the hole I couldn’t believe it.

”It was my penultimate hole and my friends were urging me to keep going to see if I could get a third ace but I wasn’t going to tempt fate.”

Officials at the golf club celebrated by gifting Adam a bottle of whisky for him to share with pals.
