This is the pile of designer clothes worth at least £60,000 found in the flat of a suspect shoplifter arrested in a posh Harvey Nichols store.

The stash included 180 pairs of jeans, Roberto Cavalli, G-Star and Ted Baker and 300 t-shirts, including Vivienne Westwood, French Connection and Diesel goods.

The man was arrested on Saturday after being allegedly caught red-handed looting from the upmarket store in Leeds, West Yorks.

They searched his flat and found 800 items of clothing – many with the secruity tags still attached.

One Givenchy t-shirt, which sells for £500, was also found among the haul and is believed to be one of only two available for sale in the UK.

Officers also seized 35 leather jackets and a large number of belts and items of jewellery from the property of the 36 year-old suspect.

Sergeant Andy Berriman, of the city neighbourhood policing team, said: “The striking aspect of this investigation was the sheer volume of items we recovered.

“Conservatively, we believe the clothes and other accessories are worth in excess of £60, 000.”

The man was arrested on suspicion of theft, going equipped to steal and criminal damage.

Sgt Berriman added: “This starkly illustrates the significant amount of money that can be lost by businesses.”

West Yorkshire Police said shoplifting had fallen by four per cent in the county in the last two years.
