Would-be astronauts are being given the chance to train for exploring the moon – by using a new book that teaches how to change a tyre on a Lunar Rover.

British publisher Haynes, best known for compiling the iconic series of car manuals, have created a comprehensive guide to the Lunar Rover, which NASA astronauts drove on the moon.

The new book has a cover in keeping with the iconic series of Haynes Manuals

The book contains information on how to do manual repairs on the moon buggy, which was used in three Apollo missions to the moon.

Set in traditional Haynes Manual style, this practical guide is being published to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the final Lunar Rover mission on December 14, 1972.

The two-seater open-top buggy, with a top speed of 10.5mph downhill, is credited with reigniting the public’s interest in the space program.

Part-spacecraft, part-car, the Rover with its range of 56 miles provided a way for astronauts to explore more of the surface of the moon.

The book contains a foreword by David R Scott, who became the first man to drive on the moon, on July 30, 1971.

The manual will go on sale on November 1, priced £21.99, in all good bookshops and from www.Haynes.co.uk
