A heartbroken mum has paid an emotional tribute to her “amazing” teenage son after he was killed in a horrific moped crash.

Tragic Lewis Crouch, 16, died when his beloved scooter collided with a car as he drove home along Peafield Lane, Mansfield, Notts., on Friday (3/2) night.

Police and ambulance crews dashed to the scene after the crash at 10.10pm.

Paramedics desperately tried to save Lewis, of Mansfield Woodhouse, but he died at the scene.

The road was closed in both directions, between the A60 Leeming Lane North and Forest Road, for more than 12 hours as officers investigated the crash.

Yesterday (Sun) his devastated mum Cheryl Broughton paid tribute to her son on Facebook as flowers were laid at the crash site.

She wrote:

“I’ve only just lost dad and now I’ve lost my son. This is so wrong, I don’t know how I can go on.

“Lewis Crouch is one of the most amazing guys you could have met. Always making me laugh with his rubbish jokes and laughing at me for being ‘such a mum.’

“His grandad was his world and he missed him greatly i can only try to believe that they are racing cars together, laughing cos no one can tell em to slow down.”

Best friend Chloe Thatcher wrote: “The world has lost someone truly amazing.

“He was my best friend. When I was feeling down on Tuesday he wrote me a paragraph to tell me how special i am and that he missed me.

“He made me smile. He always did. No matter how sad everyone was he always knew how to cheer them up. He never said anything bad about anyone no matter what they did. And I love him for that.”

Friends and family have laid flowers at the scene of the crash in memory of the schoolboy.

One card read: “Lewis you legend, heaven has another angel tonight.”

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said: “Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.

“Investigators believe another vehicle may have seen the collision and are appealing to the driver to come forward as they could have important information.”
