Jealous husband rammed his cheating wife and her lover off the road after catching them romping

A jealous husband who rammed his cheating wife and her lover off the road after catching them in a passionate romp has been spared prison.

Alan Stephens, 48, saw red when he spotted his half-undressed wife Gretta getting intimate with workmate Philip Davis in his car.

Mr. Davis sped off with the driver’s seat still in a reclined position and Stephens chased after them for two miles, repeatedly ramming the rear of their car.

He eventually sent it spinning off the road and crashing into trees where Mr. Davis was knocked unconscious.

Ipswich Crown Court heard that Stephens, a father-of-three, then poured vodka over his love rival and repeatedly hit his arm.

Prosecutor Michael Crimp said Mr. Davis suffered injuries to his ribs and bruising and swelling to his arm.

Mrs. Stephens was left with cuts on her elbow and back and bruising and told police her husband had crashed into the car four or five times.

Stephens, of Corton, Suffolk, admitted dangerous driving and assaulting Mr. Davis in Lowestoft in March.

But he was given a suspended sentence after the court heard that Mrs. Stephens had ended her affair and been reunited with her husband.

Judge John Devaux imposed a 26-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months and banned Stephens from driving for 18 months.

He was also ordered to pay #300 compensation to Mr Davis and #200 prosecution costs.

Defending, Andrew Thompson said Stephens had gone out looking for his wife and had found her in a partially undressed state in an intimate clinch with Mr Davis.

He said he had known of his wife’s infidelity and feared she was going to leave him.

Mr. Thompson said: “He was in a state of high emotion.

“He thought he was losing his family and everything he held dear.”
