Jedward will tonight launch their bid to become Ireland’s next Eurovision entry.

Jedward for Eurovision

The terrible twosome, who show no signs of dropping off the radar like many expected them to after X Factor, will be vying for the country’s votes in a Eurosong special of Ireland’s Late Late Show this evening.

Jedward – real names John and Edward – told the Irish Independent they are using the show as an opportunity to take their act in a new direction.

John said: “It’s Jedward but not how people have seen us before.

“What we’re trying to do is take our performance to a new level. We’re doing something very polished but with the same youthful energy. That’s why we’re calling it Jedward’s next step.

“We will be singing live on Eurosong, and if the public decide we’re Ireland’s Eurovision entry, we will be singing live in Dusseldorf.”

The 19-year-old twins, who also release new single Lipstick tomorrow, have come in for a barrage of criticism since their place on the Eurovision entry shortlist was revealed.

One former winner, Paul Harrington, dismissed them as not “strong” enough singers who would not manage to perform live.

But Jedward have hit back, saying: “We have the height of respect for people… who have criticised us. But we want them to know that we would be very proud to represent Ireland. We would do a good job.”

Jedward will be performing with backing singers Morgan Deane and Rebecca Creighton, from X Factor girlband Belle Amie, on the show tonight.
