Jim Davidson insists there is ‘nothing to hide’ as he speaks for the first time after sex assault arrest
Comedian Jim Davidson has spoken for the first time since his second arrest on sex assault allegations – and insisted he has “nothing to hide”.
Davidson, 59, said: “There are times when I think ‘is this actually happening?’
“The police have a job to do though and one way or another we will find out soon.
“People say that despite it being a case of ‘innocent until proven guilty’ there will be a stigma in the way that a vicar or schoolteacher would have one if they pinched someone on the bum, hypothetically speaking.
“I don’t think that. I think if you asked the public they would want this all to be over with.
“I have nothing to hide and I have no regrets in my life whatsoever.”
The former Big Break and Generation Game host is the latest in a series of high-profile names to be arrested in Operation Yewtree, an investigation sparked by the Jimmy Savile sex abuse scandal.
Speaking in Cheltenham, Glos., ahead of the latest gig in his ‘You Must Be Joking!’ national tour, he joked: “We Britons are great, we like to be part of big groups and now I’m part of a group, Operation Yewtree.”
The stand-up, who came 20th in a Channel 4 poll of the worst 11 Britons, is no stranger to controversy with his politically incorrect routines regularly attracting heavy criticism.
“The real me is boring so I have to go out there and be outrageous,” he added.
“If people do not like me they make me the bad guy.
“Some people probably think I’m worse than Jimmy Savile at this moment in time.
“Anybody who was near Jimmy knew to run away, he was a very odd character.”
The nick nack comic said he wouldn’t be talking about “the elephant in the room” during his gig.
He added: “Getting on stage allows me to gob off. It’s like having 1,000 friends in the pub.
“I won’t be talking about the allegations, the elephant in the room.
“I will be taking about the police, Boris Johnson and a lot about politics I suspect.
“People come to see me with an agenda in mind. I think everyone is a target, the royal family are a target because they can’t defend themselves.
“But I like people to come along (to my show) and change their mind.”
