John Terry: Chelsea can catch Man United

Chelsea captain John Terry has insisted the club’s Premier League title challenge is not over – despite being 12 points behind leaders Man United.

In a rallying call to his under-performing teammates, Terry says Chelsea – the current champions – have got what it takes to catch United.

Chelsea currently find themselves in fifth place on 45 points – a staggering 12 points behind Sir Alex Ferguson’s which could be extended to 15 if United beat Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

But the 31-year-old centre-back has pin-pointed United as an example of when you should never admit defeat.

Terry told Sky Sports: “It’s been done. Man United did it to Newcastle many years ago.”

This was a reference to the 1995/96 season when Newcastle United famously lose a 12 point lead over United.

However, if Chelsea want to win the title they’ll need Arsenal to slip up as well – with the Gunners one point behind United at the Premier League summit.

The England star, whose club is closer to ninth place Newcastle than top-of-the-table United, was talking ahead of Tuesday’s clash between the two teams at Stamford Bridge.

He added:”At times, we see that they can be beaten, they can be got at.

“They’re certainly not invincible.

“Blackpool, they got in their faces and did very well for 60, 70 minutes.

“But what did show, once again, was their experience. That experience, we’ve also got here as well.

“They’re a very good side but I don’t think anybody should be fearful of them.”
