The black crested macaque gave Bob Hadfield a massive grin while on a trip to Chester Zoo.

But while the handsome macaque smiles for his photo in his relaxed surroundings, it is a far different experience in the species’ natural habitat.

Also known as a yaki, the black crested macaque is only found on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.

Critically endangered, they are threatened with extinction due to the loss of their forest habitat and hunting.

Last year one of the 23 macaques at Chester Zoo escaped from his enclosure. A member of staff had to shoot the naughty primate with a dart before returning it to its home.
