Judo star, 19, ‘pinned down teenage student and tried to rape her’

A budding Olympic judo star pinned down a teenage student and tried to rape her, a court heard.

Black belt Luc Bonnargent hopes to represent Northern Ireland in the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Olympics two years later.

A jury heard how the 19 year-old, a student at Anglia Ruskin University, was out partying with judo clubmates in Cambridge last October.

Cambridge Crown Court was told that he downed Jagerbombs, beers and cocktails before bursting into the room of an 18-year-old at her student house in the city.

He then allegedly pinned her girl down and forced her to undress before attempting to rape her.

Bonnargent denies attempted rape, sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault.

He told the jury he admitted bursting into the girl’s room but denied forcing her to have sex with him.

He said the girl had kissed him and appeared relaxed and told him she was enjoying it.

But Maryam Syed, prosecuting, said: “What I am going to suggest is that is simply untrue.

“You grabbed her, you got hold of her shoulders and pulled her down and you were undressing her and she did not agree or assist you in any way.

“She was trying to stop you from undressing her.”

Bonnargent, from Romsey, Hants., replied: “That is false. I asked her on several occasions if she was OK and she said yes.

“At not one stage did she say leave or stop or I do not want this.”

After being told of the allegations by a fellow student he said: “I was just sort of shocked, like none of this happened.

“I though this is a joke what is going on here.”

The trial continues.
