England Ashes hero Kevin Pietersen has been fined for speeding in a Lamborghini supercar organised for him – by Australia legend Shane Warne.

The 30-year-old, named man of the match for his double century in England’s recent victorious test match, was fined A$239 (£150) after being clocked doing 121kph in a 110kph zone, according to police.

A police spokesperson said: “Geelong highway police detected by laser a yellow Lamborghini travelling north along the Geelong Ring Road at 121km/h in a 100 zone about 2:35pm on Thursday.

“The male driver was in his 30s and was issued with a penalty of A$239 and three demerit points. There were no passengers in the vehicle.”

Shane Warne, who is a close friend of Pietersen after they were teammates at Hampshire, helped organise use of the yellow Lamborghini with a dealership in Melbourne.

He has spent the past few days driving the Italian supercar up and down the picturesque coastline, uploading images of the stunning scenery to his 115,000 followers on micro-blogging website Twitter.

The England star tweeted: “Massive thanks to Lamborghini Melbourne & @warne888 for letting me play with this for a few days.”

Pietersen was enjoying a relaxing few days after he hit a career-best 227 against Australia in the second test match in Adelaide.

The batsman’s heroics helped England to an innings victory against a beleaguered Australia team.

Ironically, Australia fans are calling for Shane Warne to be called up to the side for the next test, despite being 41-years-old and having retired from test match cricket nearly four years ago.

The ECB has confirmed the incident and said it will be taking no action against Pietersen.
