Kings of Leon abandon gig after pigeon attack

US rock band Kings of Leon were forced off stage last night after coming under attack from a group of fouling pigeons.

The Grammy award-winning group had to quit the gig in St Louis three songs into a 20 song set as the birds bombarded them from above.

Jared Followill was singled out for the bulk of the attack with the bassist nearly hit in the mouth on one occasion.

Drummer Nathan tweeted: “So sorry St Louis. We had to bail, pigeons s***ing in Jared’s mouth and it was too unsanitary to continue.”

The band was aware of the threat posed by the pigeons after supporting acts The Postelles and The Stills left the stage covered in bird faeces.

However, they opted to give the gig a shot but called it a day after performing Taper Jean Girl.

Publicist Amy Mendelsohn added: “Jared was hit several times during the first two songs. On the third song, when he was hit in the cheek and some of it landed near his mouth, they couldn’t deal [with it] any longer.”

The band has offered a full refund to fans who attended the gig.
