A man has had his arm covered in tattoos depicting places in his favourite city – Edinburgh.

Craig Purves, 29, has had Edinburgh icons Greyfriars Bobby, Edinburgh Castle, the Hub, St Giles Cathedral and the James Simpson statue inked on his body.

His tattoo of the Hub is particularly special to him as he married his wife Stacey, 27, there in 2009.

But despite devoting an arm to the black-and-white cityscape, Craig has still not finished, and is hoping to find room for the Scott Monument and the famous one o’clock gun.

Craig, who has a 23-month-old son called Oscar, said yesterday (Mon): “I was born and bred in Edinburgh and it’s my favourite city.

“There’s a lot of culture and lots of things to see and do. It’s not a big tourist capital for nothing.

“Greyfriars Bobby is very significant in the city. I got married at the Hub, and it’s a stunning building which has got history for me and my wife.

“And my son was born at the James Simpson maternity hospital.”

Last year Craig decided he wanted to have tattoos on his left arm but none of the traditional Chinese or tribal designs appealed to him.

Instead he opted to show his love for Edinburgh with a series of tattoos of its skyline.

The tattoos were done over three sittings – of four hours, three hours and an hour.

He said: “It’s not a walk in the park, it is uncomfortable, but I’m used to the pain. It’s not too bad.”

Craig’s left arm is now nearly full, but he still hopes to squeeze a couple more Edinburgh-inspired tattoos onto it.

He said: “When I decided to have my left arm done I talked it over with my wife. It was her idea as well and she likes them. It means something to us.”
