A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of dealing in the newly illegal party drug Mephedrone.

Police raided a house in Thorn Avenue, Warndon, Worcester, yesterday and discovered a quantity of white powder.

The man, who has not been named, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.

Mephedrone – also dubbed Meow Meow and M-Cat – was made illegal in Britain last Friday following a spate of deaths.

Detective Inspector Jim Fox, of West Mercia Police, said: ”Officers seized a quantity of white powder and other items and a man remains in custody at Worcester Police station while enquiries continue.

”We hope residents are reassured that we take drug-related crime extremely seriously and act on information we receive about Mephedrone and all other illegal drugs.”
