A mother has forgiven her violent son who held a kitchen knife to her throat and snarled “I’m going to kill you. I’m going to cut your face apart.”

Amanda Ward was subjected to the brutal attack when drunk Samuel Ward, 20, lost his temper and threatened to firebomb their home.

But despite her ordeal she wrote a letter to a judge saying her son was ‘a good boy’ when he was sober and she had forgiven him.

Despite her compassion, Ward was jailed for two years at Canterbury Crown Court for making threats to kill, criminal damage, assault and threatening to damage property.

Judge Simon James told him: “Her forgiveness and compassion is to be commended and you are fortunate to have your family’s support and an opportunity, over time, to build bridges.”

Prosecutor Vivian Walters told the court: “Mrs Ward was upset and screaming and he then picked up a bread knife and put the blade to her throat saying: ‘I’m going to kill you. I’m going to cut your face apart.’

“She seriously feared he would cut her throat – and could smell the alcohol on his breath.”

Ward, from Margate, Kent pleaded guilty to the five offences.
