A multi-millionaire American footballer has been slammed for tipping just 20 CENTS in a restaurant.

LeSean McCoy earns around $9 million-a-year as one of the Philadelphia Eagles’ star players.

But he only added a 20c (12p) tip to the bill when he visited a burger restaurant and spent $61.56 (£38) – just 0.3 PER CENT.

McCoy, 26, had been eating at Philadelphia burger house PYT on Monday when he left the miserly tip.

He would have earned around $1,000 (£620) while eating, if he had been in the burger house for an hour.

The restaurant decided to put a photo of the receipt on its Facebook page, shaming the talented running back.

It ended up going viral and prompting a backlash against both the player for his stinginess and the eaterie for publishing the receipt.

Tommy Up, the boss of PYT, has now responded to criticism and says he stands by his actions 100 per cent.

The businessman said everyone was excited about seeing McCoy come in to eat but he had been a terrible customer and his tip was “callous”.

In a Facebook post he said while I’d like to apologise to Mr McCoy, “I cannot in good conscience do so” after his staff had provided “impeccable service”.

This was despite Mr McCoy being “verbally abusive to our staff in the most insulting ways”, according to Up.

He added: “The derogatory statements about women and their sheer contempt for the staff serving them wasn’t the end, however.

“After Mr McCoy and his group left I looked over and saw their server, my friend, with his head bowed down and with a very confused look on his face.

“I took the receipt out of his hand and I couldn’t believe that anyone could be so callous. Mr McCoy had left a .03% tip for our staff.

“Our staff that was beyond excited to see him walk into our burger joint and was excited to serve him. That’s twenty cents on a tab of over $60.

“Twenty cents that our server has to split with the food runner and the bartender. Two dimes from an insulting multimillionaire.”

The Facebook post has been ‘liked’ more than 6,000 times and shared more than 1,300 times, receiving mixed reviews.

A number of people leapt to the defence of the restaurant for publicly shaming McCoy, but others have criticised them for their “unprofessional” behaviour.

When asked about the 20c tip, McCoy told a local newspaper that it was “total bull***”, but declined to elaborate.
