A mum-of-two gave birth in the passenger seat of her husband’s BMW after he delayed going to hospital – to watch an England WORLD CUP match.

Marketing consultant Lindsey Cartwright, 31, started having contractions around seven hours before England kicked off against Slovenia in their final group qualifier on June 23.

But she stayed calm and decided to let football-mad husband James, 30, remain glued to the screen until the final whistle before taking her to hospital.

The pair jumped in James’ prized BMW as soon as the match was over but Lindsey’s waters broke minutes into the half hour drive to Luton and Dunstable Hospital.

James pulled over on the pavement of a residential street and was forced to deliver 8lb 8oz daughter Amelie in the passenger seat with the help of a 999 call centre handler.

Proud mum Lindsey, from Leighton Buzzard, Beds., said: ”James was watching the second half of the football and I went and lay in a bath.

”Just as the final whistle blew I realised I had left it too late. We didn’t know whether to wait for an ambulance or make a dash for the hospital.

”In the end we got in the car. The whole thing was amazing but it made a terrible mess of the front seat.”

Lindsey and healthy baby Amelie Jaimie were given the all clear at the hospital and were allowed home a few hours later.
