This is the moment an ambulance crew needed medical assistance after their vehicle flipped over as it rushed to an emergency call-out.

The ambulance, which was on its way to a nursing home to tend to a resident who had fallen unconscious, crashed into a tree before ending up on its side.

Paramedics were left shaken as witnesses rushed to their aid at 10.30am on Tuesday.

Amazingly, no-one was injured in the crash, despite a woman and her daughter being just yards from the ambulance as it overturned.

Nikul Lal, 24, who saw the crash on the A449 Penn Road in Wolverhampton, West Mids., he helped the paramedics get out of the van.

He said: “I rushed over and helped the passengers get out by opening the double doors at the back of the ambulance.

“Fortunately they seemed okay.”

Another witness, who did not want to be named said: “I’m surprised no-one got hurt, it was awful.

“It’s not every day you see a vehicle that big flip and skid along the road.

“I really thought the paramedics would be seriously hurt.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman John Hawker said: “The ambulance was answering a 999 call to an unconscious patient at a nursing home, and was travelling on blue lights and sirens at the time of the crash.

“The ambulance crew and a student paramedic were all uninjured in the crash.”

Another ambulance was sent to the nursing home and Penn Road was closed in both directions for almost an hour and a half while a clean-up operation took place.

No-one was injured in the collision and no other vehicles were involved.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
