Dozens of excited motorists queued for up to four hours outside a petrol station – after bungling staff accidentally sold fuel for just 13p a litre.

Drivers flocked from miles away when word spread about the technical glitch at the Jet garage in Coventry, West Mids.

People queued for hours between midnight and 4am on Wednesday after eagle-eyed drivers spotted that unleaded petrol was being sold at 13.9p a litre instead of 139.9p.

The blunder brought traffic to a standstill as drivers queued out of the garage forecourt onto the A45 as they frantically filled up with cut-price fuel.

One driver, Abdul Hussain, 36, said he couldn’t believe his luck when he arrived at the garage and filled up the tank in his car for just £9 – saving him a total of £80.

Abdul, from Walsgrave, West Mids., said: “I got a text message from my friend around 1am saying the station was selling petrol at 13.3p.

“I couldn’t believe until I got there and everyone was just filling up.

“I normally pay £90 for a full tank of petrol, it was a bargain.

“There was a big queue when I got there with around 20 to 30 cars waiting to fill up. It was unbelievable.

“The staff were really overwhelmed to have that many cars there at that time of night.”

Another motorist, who got the message at 2am from a friend, said: “The news was travelling fast and messages were going out to everyone telling them about the mistake.

“Everyone was just going there and queuing up for the one pump which was quite funny.

“News travelled far and wide and people were coming from miles away to fill up their cars.

“The staff were just astonished that they were so busy that late at night.“

When staff realised the mistake they put the price back up to 139.9p.

No one from the garage as available for comment today.
