A video of the aftermath has now been uploaded to the YouTube page ‘Supercars of London’, with thousands viewing the unfortunate officer’s hapless driving.

One eyewitness said: “I have been filming supercars for many years around Europe but this is the first time I have seen an unfortunate incident like this involving the police.”

The civilian car involved was a bright yellow Ferrari 458 Spider which cost around £250,000.

As the police officer reverses the BMW away from the Ferrari there is an almighty clunk as the supercar’s yellow bumper is almost ripped in half.

Despite only looking like a minor shunt, the Met Police could now be left with a hefty repair bill running into thousands.

The onlooker added: “It created quite a scene and a lot of bystanders were photographing and filming the incident.

“It was an amazing combination of a supercar involved in a crash with the police.”

With a 4.5-litre V8 engine developing 570bhp, the Ferrari 458 Spider is capable of 0-62mph in 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 198mph.

The Met Police confirmed there had been an incident, which took place on Sunday.

A spokesperson said: “We can confirm a police car was in collision with a Ferrari. No one was injured during the collision and no arrests were made.”
