Police are investigating the death of a 13-year-old college student.

Sian Jones was found by her mother at an address in Plymouth, Devon, at 9.45pm on Tuesday June 22.

Her mum and a neighbour tried to resuscitate her while her 15-year-old sister dialled 999

She was rushed to Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital but pronounced dead.

Officers are not treating the death as suspicious but say an investigation into the circumstances has been launched.

Carol Hannaford, Sian’s principal at Stoke Damerel Community College, said: ”We are devastated to learn of the death of one of our school’s family of students.

”The death of any young person is an especially tragic event and our thoughts are with her family and friends and all of the students and staff who knew her.

”Specially trained counsellors have been brought in to college to support the students and staff who have been deeply upset by this tragedy.”

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said: ”We would like to express our sincere condolences and sympathy to the patient’s family.”
