These shocking pictures show a cat with a deadly crossbow bolt stuck in her leg after she was attacked by callous thugs.
Poor pussy Fleur incredibly managed to make it back to the comfort of her basket despite being shot through her right hind leg with the metal bolt.
The sight of their beloved family pet suffering after such a callous and vicious attack has now driven the Bruniges family to call for justice.
They say whoever did this, who have been walking round the streets with a deadly crossbow, deserves to be punished.
Described by police as “a particularly nasty attack against a family pet”, Fleur was attacked at some point between Sunday evening and Monday morning (Sept 4-5).
Michelle and Alan Bruniges, of Meltham, West Yorks., didn’t know anything about the animal’s plight until they woke and found her in her basket.
The couple, who have two cats, don’t even know who she managed to get through the cat flap with the metal bolt still in her leg.
After a frantic rush to the Ashfield Veterinary Surgery in Meltham, the Bruniges finally got some good news – the bolt had hadn’t hit any bones.
Fleur immediately underwent hour-long surgery to have the bolt removed and is now on the mend.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police were called to an address in Meltham to reports that a cat had been injured by what was believed to be a crossbow.
“Officers are investigating the incident which happened between 8pm on Sunday 4 September and 05:20am on Monday 5 September.”
Sgt Fay Swindin of the Kirklees Rural NPT, said: “This is a particularly nasty attack against a family pet and I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw anyone carrying a crossbow to contact police on 101 quoting crime reference 13160382308.
“In the wrong hands crossbows can be a dangerous weapon and it is important that anyone looking to buy one understands the law governing the purchasing and possession of them.”
