A pub diner was horrified when he found these kitchen pans being used to catch water – from the leaky URINALS.
Jonathan Deady, 38, made the stomach-churning discovery when he went to the loo during a meal at the Toby Carvery in Henbury, Bristol.
He found four large bain marie commercial cooking trays lined up to catch water leaking from the urinals.
Jonathan, who was dining with his wife Angie, 39, and their 18-month-old daughter, Bethany, complained and was offered £80 compensation.
But he is disappointed that no-one from the company had formally apologised for the alleged hygiene breach at the carvery, called the The Salutation.
He said: “Thankfully we had already finished eating our food when I made the discovery, otherwise we would have been out of there, even if we were only half way through the meal, and I certainly wouldn’t have been paying.
“Our 18-month-old daughter was there with us eating too, it’s so worrying.
“I don’t understand why they wouldn’t use some big yellow buckets, or just shut the toilets for that matter – there are other ones.
“I haven’t even had a ‘sorry’ from anyone – it’s just really disappointing.
“They have told me that those pans wouldn’t be used any more and that they were old pans but I’m not stupid, I used to work in catering and I know what it’s like in places like that.
“When things start to get busy things like this get forgotten about and old pans are dragged out of the cupboards in desperation.”
Jonathan used to work in catering before he was forced to give up to look after his wife Angie, who suffers with MS.
They live near the restaurant and even held their wedding reception there – but say they will not be returning.
He added: “It’s disgusting and they are trying to cover it up with £80. I’m not after money – that isn’t the point.
“It’s all very well trying to give me money for being the one to catch them out but what about the families eating there that know none the wiser?
“The urinals were literally overflowing and they had been put there to catch the water.
“It’s absolutely disgusting. They have a five star hygiene rating, how are they getting away with behaviour like this?
“I think it’s safe to say I will never be eating there again. Me and my wife even had out wedding reception there but we won’t be going back.”
A spokesperson for the restaurant apologised but explained that the bain maries, which are used for keeping food warm, were old and immediately discarded after the incident.
She said: “The toilets were out of use, as we had an issue with leaking pipes.
“We used old containers to catch the water and stop further damage to the floor. The containers were discarded immediately afterwards.”
She added that the toilets have since reopened after maintenance work.
