Police have issued an urgent appeal to help find an elderly tourist who was accidentally left behind on a train platform – when the doors slammed shut.

Romanian Vasile Belea, 63, was visiting his son in London when the pair became separated by closing train doors on Tuesday evening.

Vasile, on his first trip to Britain, was left behind at Stockwell underground station, but his son has so far been unable to locate him.

PC Richard Owen, from Sutton police station, said Mr Belea had come over to enjoy Christmas with his son and was due to return to Romania at the end of January.

He is described as 6ft with grey hair. He was wearing blue jeans, a long dark black jacket and a black flat cap.
