David White, 33, was clocked driving his Porsche Boxster 40mph above the speed limit on the M11 near Whittlesford, Cambs., on August 26 last year.

White, a sales and business manager at a Porsche and Aston Martin dealership, claimed he sped past the foreign lorry because he was ”concerned for his safety”.

Cambridge Magistrates’ Court ordered six penalty points on White’s driving licence adding he was very ”lucky” not to be banned from the road.

White, of Great Shelford, Cambs., said he had worked in the car industry for 16 years and could be fired if he lost his licence.

He said: ”I have had the privilege to be able to drive very fast cars and don’t take that lightly. I decided to overtake a double-trailered HGV vehicle, a left-hand drive.

”With experience I’ve had through friends, accidents have happened previously on the A14.

”It’s always been my judgment to pass such vehicles as quickly and safely as possible.

”I’m fully aware of the circumstances, I exceeded the speed limit, I don’t take it lightly.”

Dr Stephen Halliday, chairman of the magistrates, said the court would ordinarily ban a driver caught at 110mph in a 70mph motorway.

He said: ”We are not going to disqualify you. I think you should consider yourself quite lucky – in many circumstances we would have done.”

White was fined £400 and ordered to pay £100 costs.
