Schoolboy wins over franchise bosses with facebook campaign

A schoolboy who loves sausage rolls has convinced bosses at Greggs the baker to open a shop in his home town – using a Facebook campaign.

Harry Caldwell, 12, started up the group ‘Gregg’s for Lydney’ in February in a bid to lure the budget bakery to the Gloucestershire town.

The campaign amassed over 1,500 members and Harry even persuaded his local MP Mark Harper to lobby bosses at the chain.

Harry was amazed when Ken McMeikan, chief executive of Greggs, sent a letter to the Conservative MP saying they had seen Harry’s campaign – and would soon be opening a shop.

The schoolboy said: ”When I found out that it might happen I couldn’t believe it.

”It has been really good that so many people have joined the facebook group. Now I can’t wait until it opens.”

A spokesman for Greggs, which sells 140 million sausage rolls a year, confirmed that a site had been chosen as a result of Harry’s campaign.
