Chef discovers perfectly round egg

Stunned James Church, 27, was working an early shift at a hotel in Newquay, Cornwall when he found the spherical shell.

James was about crack the freaky egg to make a fry-up when when he noticed it did not have the normal oval form.

The whole staff were so amazed at the discovery James put the two-and-a-half inch in a special protective case.

James, of Newquay, plans to keep the free range hen’s egg – which he bought from a local caterers.

He said: ”We get trays of free range eggs delivered in the morning and I was cracking them ready to make breakfast for the guests.

”I pulled out one tray and spotted this perfectly round egg. I stood for a few moments in awe, because I had never seen anything like it.

”I called everyone in the kitchen over and they stood around it too, because they had never seen anything like it either.”

James, who has worked in the kitchen for eight years, said he will keep the egg indefinitely in his fridge at home.

He said: ”I’ve put it in a protective case so I don’t get it mixed up with any others in my fridge by mistake.

”I’ve probably cracked at least 100,000 eggs in my time as a chef but I’ve never seen one like this. I managed to save it from the frying pan so I’m definitely going to keep it.”
