Sian O'Callaghan - woman tells how two men tried to coax her into car

Suju nightclub: where Sian O’Callaghan was last seen

The woman, who did not want to be named, said two dark-skinned, foreign-sounding men approached her as she was out walking alone two miles from where Sian, 22, vanished.

She had just bought alcohol from a shop on Birch Street, Swindon, at about 10.15pm on Saturday before walking a short distance to get a taxi to a friend’s house.

The woman said: ”A dark green car with two men inside slowed down and pulled up alongside me as I was walking.

”The driver wound down his window and said: ‘Hey, do you want a lift somewhere?’

”I just carried on walking but the car started following me at my walking pace.

”They were still saying ‘come on, come on, get in – you know you want to’.

”After about two minutes I reached the end of Birch Street and they then sped off towards the town centre.

”It was pretty scary and shook me up a bit but I didn’t think much of it until Sian disappeared.

”Then all my friends said I should go to the police and report what happened.

”I feel lucky because it was only about a two minute walk to the end of the road – had it been ten or so minutes, I might have phoned someone for help.”

The woman described the driver as dark skinned and aged in his late 20s. He spoke with a foreign accent. She said she did not get a proper look at the passenger.

Birch Street is just over two miles from the Suju nightclub where pretty PA Sian disappeared early on Saturday morning.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said posts of Facebook and other sites were being used in order to aid their search.

He said: ”The investigation is very wide reaching and the comments and information on all sites, including social networking are being considered.

”At this time, it is not appropriate for us to comment further.”
