This massive Spring lamb and has named ‘Lambo’ after tipping the scales at 20lbs – the second biggest ever born in Britain.

The whopping animal is three times the size of other newborn lambs and weighs the same as an average human toddler.

Farmer John Grigg, 51, helped deliver Lambo himself and was immediately shocked by his huge size.

John and his family have decided to spare him the chop and will keep him as a pet at their Neverdown Farm, near Bideford, Devon,

Lambo weighs just one pound less than Bruno, who was hailed Britain’s biggest ever when he arrived at 21lbs four years ago in Worcestershire.

John, who lives on with his wife Sue and daughter Maria, said he had not seen a lamb as big in 26 years of rearing animals.

He said: “I knew as soon as I could feel its feet it was a big one. I have never weighed a lamb here before but my daughter said we ought to as it was so big.”

Lambo’s mum, a Suffolk mule cross ewe, is three years old and has only given birth once before.

Ewes often give birth to twins, triplets or sometimes more than three each delivery, but when they have a single offspring it can often be larger.

These lambs can cause pelvic injuries to the mother but thankfully Lambo’s mum emerged unscathed.

Mr Grigg added: “She is doing great and she has plenty of milk so there shouldn’t be a problem.”

Lambo is still living in his pen because his gangly legs and giant feet make him a little less steady than the 700 other sheep and lambs on 300-acre farm.

Sue, 47, said: “It would be nice to keep the lamb for longer as it is so special and also it already seems to be a bit of a character.”

Before Bruno’s birth the biggest lamb recognised by Guinness World Records was one born in North Wales weighing a comparatively modest 17lbs.

The biggest ever recorded in New Zealand – the world’s biggest producer of lambs – was just 15.5lbs.
