Casey Putsch, 29, was fed up of seeing lacklustre imitations of his favourite ever vehicle.

So the American engineer decided to build an identical replica of car made famous by the 1989 blockbuster starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson.

He even fitted it with an incredible sounding gas turbine to make it the only one of its type in the world.

Casey said: ”I was a kid of the 80’s. I appreciate Batman and the Batmobile is the coolest car ever conceived.

”People have tried to recreate it but none have ever been turbine-powered as there are portrayed to be and I wanted to show what I could do as a builder.”

Casey – who runs Putsch Racing in Ohio – spent five months and an undisclosed amount of money paying homage to the iconic film car.

It has received huge acclaim in the motoring world, even picking up a ‘People’s Choice’ award at a Concours d’Elegance car show.

He is now being advertising the car on eBay for a staggering £380,000 – the combined figure a petrolhead would pay for the new McLaren MP4-12C and Ferrari 458.

But while the these two supercars make a similar-sounding deep roar, the Batmobile whistles like a Boeing passenger jet taxiing around a runway before take-off.

This is thanks to the 365bhp Boeing turbo shaft engine sourced from a naval drone helicopter to power the car.

Casey says it the same power-to-weight ratio as a Dodge Viper sports car – a vehicle capable of 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 190mph.

He claims it is easier to service than a normal car but admits it will only average 5-10mpg when run off jet A, kerosene, or diesel fuel.

Casey added: ”Its construction is in a completely different league than both replicas and the movie prop cars, it’s street registered in the US and ready for immediate sale

”It has a perfect reliability record and is ready to be enjoyed by an enthusiast who wants the ultimate in one-upmanship.

”I will simply remember it fondly and enjoy telling the stories, but it’s time to move on. I’m now planning to build a fuel efficient, recyclable supercar.”

More than 100,000 people have viewed the advert on eBay with Casey saying there has been a lot of ”interest from serious buyers”.

The sale ends on Monday.
