Take That’s ‘A Million Love Songs’ was yesterday voted the greatest love song ever by music fans.

The 1992 hit was written by Gary Barlow at the tender age of 15 and includes only two instruments – a piano and saxophone.

It has gone on to become a first dance favourite at weddings across the world despite it only reaching number seven in the UK charts.

Runner-up in the slushy song poll was Bryan Adam’s ‘(Everything I Do) I Do It For You’ taken from the blockbuster movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

The power ballad remained at number one in the UK single charts for a staggering 16 weeks and to this day holds the record for the record for the longest reign at the top of the charts.

American rockers Bon Jovi came third with their 1994 power ballad ‘Always’, followed by Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’, from the Bodyguard soundtrack.

And Aerosmith were voted into fifth place with ‘I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing’ from the film Armageddon which sees Bruce Willis save the world from a meteor.

Yesterday a spokesman for www.OnePoll.com said: ”Everyone loves a soppy song and most couples have special record that they count as ‘our song’.

”A Million Love Songs isn’t one of the most popular songs that Take That released and only reached number seven in the charts. Yet it hasn’t been overplayed like some songs listed in the poll which is why it’s still great to here 18 years after it was first released.

”There are some real classic ballads in this poll which will no doubt stand the test of time.

”Lady in Red by Chris De Burgh was being played at weddings 24 years ago and most likely will still be a dance floor filler in another 20 years time.”

Sixth place went to Celine Dion’s slushy Titanic theme song ‘My Heart Will Go On’, while Savage Garden’s 1997 song ‘Truly Madly Deeply’ was seventh.

Sinead O’Connor with her 1990 song ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ emerged in eighth spot.

Elton John is at number nine with ‘Your Song’, while ‘Unchained Melody’ by the Righteous Brothers completed the top ten.

Other songs to feature in the poll include U2’s With or Without You at 14 and Lionel Richie and Diana Ross’ classic duet, ‘Endless love’, at number 17.

Two thirds of women admitted they ‘start to well up’ when they hear their favourite love song.
