A tiny dog had a miracle escape after chasing a goat and falling – down a 250ft CLIFF.

The Shih Tzu – called Alfie – was being walked by his owner when he plummeted more than 80m through the air.

He ran after a goat and disappeared into bushes and fell 250ft onto the beach in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset.

Coastguards say it was a ”big fall from the edge of the highest point” of the massive edifice.

Local coastguards searched the entire area looking for the hapless hound and he was found – unharmed at the foot of the precipice.

Relieved owner Jackie Guest, of Birmingham, said she was amazed her beloved pet survived the tumble off Brean Down.

She said: “I’m so grateful to the coastguard team for their quick response and their help in rescuing Alfie. It was a terrible afternoon and I am so relieved to have him back.”

Little 18-month-old Alfie had been on a lead but sprinted off after a goat when tourist Jackie put down the leash for a second.

Burnham Coastguard Officer Dave Welland said: “We were called to reports of a person trying to recover their dog after it went over the edge of Brean Down.

“One team searched the base of the Down while the other searched along the top and the dog was eventually found on the beach at the bottom.

“Incredibly, he just a few scrapes and bruises. This was a big fall from the edge of the highest point of the Down.

“He was lucky not to have suffered any serious injuries and still had enough energy to snarl at the coastguard officer rescuing him.”
