A small wooden beach hut described as little more than a ”glorified shed” is expected to be sold at auction for a staggering £90,000.

The beach chalet on the Teign Estuary in Teignmouth, Devon, is the first to be sold at the picturesque spot for three years.

It has a guide price of £60,000 but auctioneers expect it to fetch nearer £90,000 because they so rarely become available.

Estate Agent Nick Wood of Woods Estate Agents and Auctioneers, who is selling the shack on May 18, said: ”The chalet has been in the vendor’s family for well over 40 years and they are very reluctant sellers.

”But the family’s dynamic has shifted. It’s now owned by three siblings, and they rarely use it, so they want somebody else to have the opportunity.”

Mr Wood said this hut was particularly unique because it is being sold as a freehold.

He said: ”Normally they are owned by councils and rented on a lease of between 20 and 60 years, but in this case, you get to own the little bit of Devon beach that it sits on.”

The row of huts have historically been used by fishermen for storing gear but they offer stunning westerly sunset views.
