Underwhelmed Scottish man finds out he’s won £8 million on the Lottery…. and says ‘LOVELY’ before erupting into ecstatic laughter
A man who scooped nearly £8million in the lottery made an unfazed phone call to report he had the lucky ticket — and said it was “lovely”.
Philip Dunning, 44, was calm when he called up the National Lottery, before joking that he was “shaking like a leaf”.
The former shift-manager at a food processing factory ended up quitting his job of 15 years because of the win.
But when Philip first called to claim the whopping £7,864,529, he proved to be remarkably relaxed about hitting the big time.
An audio transcript of the call plays back how down-to-earth he remained while speaking to a lottery phone handler.
Philip, of Bo’ness, Falkirk, said: “I believe I have the winning jackpot ticket from last night’s lottery draw. I’m shaking like a leaf here.
“I’m speechless to be honest with you. I don’t know what to actually say. It’s just surreal. I think that’s the only word I can use to describe it.
“It’s all a bit of a dream.”
Philip first learned he had won when family friend Sandra Easton, 45, called as he and partner Gina Meikle, prepared to go to bed.
Sandra, who matched up the lucky couple eleven years ago, knew the set of numbers that Philip used every week.
Philip previously said: “We were getting ready to go to bed when we received the phone call.
“There was no sleep after we received that phone call, we stayed up most of the night.
“The phone call from Sandra was quite short and simple, it was ‘switch on your TV, you’ve won the lottery.’
“The first thing we did was switch on the TV and we saw the numbers staring at us on the screen.
“We’ve not got any concrete plans but we will buy a new house and a new car.
“I went into work on the Monday morning as normal and first thing I did was hand in my resignation, as did my partner.”
Philip, who has not ruled out a possible wedding with the money, won the jackpot with the numbers 4, 11, 27, 28, 30, and 49, with the Bonus Ball 47.
He scored the life-changing sum from a Saturday night draw last month.
