Woman arrested on suspicion of murder after man, 58, is killed in Christmas Day house fire

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died in a house fire on Christmas Day.

The blaze broke out at 5pm on Wednesday killing an unnamed 58-year-old man.

Police confirmed they were treating the fire as suspicious and arrested a 57-year-old woman on the same day.

The man is yet to be formally identified and a post mortem examination will take place in due course.

West Midlands Police confirmed they attended the scene at South Street Gardens Walsall, West Mids., at around 5.30pm on Christmas Day.

Detective Inspector Gary Plant is leading the inquiry. He said: “We are keen to speak to anyone with information which may help our investigation.

“The man’s family are being informed and are being supported by specially trained officers at this difficult time.”

Police have launched a murder inquiry and urge anyone with information to contact them on 101 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
