Woman who missed the bus lies in the ROAD until it lets her on

This is the jaw-dropping moment a woman who missed a bus stopped it by lying down in the road  – and wouldn’t move until the driver let her on.

The frustrated female passenger arrived late at a stop just as the double-decker was pulling away.

But rather than wait for the next one she ran and caught up with the bus at traffic lights – and lay down in the street.

She lay spread eagle ”like a star fish” and the stunned driver was unable to move forward.

Following a stand-off lasting several minutes the baffled driver eventually relented and let the protesting passenger board the bus.

Her bizarre behaviour was caught on a phone camera by a passerby in Torquay, Devon.

He said: “She’d missed the bus by seconds but obviously was determined it wouldn’t leave without her.

”She ran to the traffic lights and got down on the road in front of the bus and simply refused to move. She lay there like a starfish.

“Eventually the driver let her get on which didn’t seem to impress the other passengers much. Now everyone will be pulling a stunt whenever they’re running late.”

Bosses at Stagecoach said the driver of the Number 12 service from Torquay to Newton Abbot let the passenger board to avoid further delays.

A spokesman said: “We can confirm an incident took place last Thursday involving one of our buses travelling towards Newton Abbot.

“The bus had departed Cary Parade on time and, as the driver waited at the traffic lights, a woman ran into the road and lay down in front of the bus to prevent it from moving off.

“The woman refused to move until the driver let her board the bus and, in order to defuse the situation and prevent further delays to other road users, the driver allowed her to board.

“We would like to emphasize that, for the safety of all our passengers, we can only pick up at designated stops and it was fortunate this woman’s actions did not result in a more serious outcome.”
