Women prefer geeky, practical guys to athletic well-groomed men, a study revealed yesterday.
A poll of 3,000 women revealed most were more attracted to ‘geek chic’ than a bulked-up gym monkey.
Almost three quarters of the 3,000 women polled said they were more attracted to men who know how to fix things over blokes who keep themselves fit.
Just one in three said they would go for a muscly bloke who took pride in his appearance.
More than half said they wouldn’t even consider dating a man who couldn’t get his head around technology gadgets or home DIY.
And almost nine out of ten said they found men who spend their spare time down the gym a total turn-off.
A spokesman for 24/7 tech support advice service Geek Squad, which carried out the study said: ”These results will be a severe blow for the millions of men who regularly work-out in a bid to appear more attractive to the opposite sex.
”Women might lust over hunky celebrities like Brad Pitt and George Clooney, but it looks like when it comes to being in a relationship, they would much rather be with someone who is practical and has a bit of gadget know-how.
”It seems women value a man who can give them support in practical ways as well as emotionally, and especially when it comes to technology and gadgets.”
The poll also revealed almost half of women want a man around the house who can help sort out the TV, stereo, and home computer.
More than half of women also said they feel a partner who is able to fix things around the home makes them feel more cared for.
One in twenty women have even dumped someone because they knew more about fixing gadgets than their partner.
Researchers also found that the chore women really want their men to take care of is sorting out their gadgets with twice as many women saying they would rather their partners fix their favourite gadgets than change the bedroom sheets.
