This is the moment a small British village held the world’s first ever – SALAD eating competition.

Contestants at the event ate as much tomato, lettuce and cucumber as possible in three minutes.

Eating competitions traditionally involve unhealthy and fatty foods such as hot dogs, pizza and pies.

But organisers of the Mantaon Show Fair in Devon said they wanted a healthy option.

The winner was local man Iain McDonald who ate a whopping 956g of salad in 180 seconds.

Organiser David Mason said: ”The salad eating was the first of its kind in the world and it was a huge hit.

”They could choose what salad ingredients and dressing they wanted from a selection provided.

”The winner ate a phenomenal 956g of salad.”
