By sharing your story you help contribute to a greater public understanding of the world.

For most people, news stories are their main source of knowledge, and almost all news stories rely on people like you to talk about their experiences.

People who share their personal details with news publishers describe that experience in different ways.

  • For some people they feel glad to have shared important information with the public.
  • Sometimes people feel like it is good to be listened to for once and to feel they have a voice.
  • Others want to set the record straight.
  • Some just like being the centre of attention – and why not.

To help you have the best experience it helps to know a few things.

The very nature of what SWNS does is public, and we work with a large number of publishers in different countries.

Most people aren’t used to having lots of people know their personal details, and the attention generated by a news story can feel intense, but it doesn’t last for very long.

Every day there are new stories for people to talk about so even though you’ll still be able to find your story by doing an internet search, public attention moves very quickly on to other things.

Our advice is to enjoy the moment, share the story with your friends and on your social media – almost all the views a story gets come in the first few hours or days.

One of the consequences of talking about things in public is some people will have their own opinions they want to share about your story, overwhelmingly people are supportive and friendly but there are always a small number of cowardly people who hide behind anonymous accounts.

However, what’s more important than a few trolls are brave people like you who get to have your say in your own words – and few people read newspaper comment sections anyway.
